There's a new season in the works for Orlando Theatre Project, and here's the good news — all of it is at the Lowndes Shakespeare Center in Loch Haven Park, and all of it is contemporary plays that haven't been produced in Orlando.
Why am I happy about that? Because OTP's once-devoted audience has long been confused when the company moves from theater to theater and town to town. Last season, some of the season was in Winter Park and some in Winter Garden — and you'd almost never know it was the same company.
Then there's the fact that OTP's most interesting work over the years nearly always has been the unknown or unfamiliar-to-Orlando plays — plays nobody else was doing. Granted, those productions are harder to sell. But they've often been compelling shows.
So thanks, OTP. And here you go: OTP's 2009-2010 season:
- Cash & Cabaret (annual fundraiser), Sept. 5, Goldman Theater.
- Three Viewings, by Jeffrey Hatcher, Oct. 30-Nov. 22, Studio B.
- Almost, Maine, by John Cariani, Jan. 8-31, Goldman Theatre.
- Fat Pig, by Neil LaBute, Feb. 19-March 14, Mandell Studio Theater.
OTP plans also to participate in Artfest next February, PlayFest in April and the Fringe next May with titles still to be determined.
